INTRODUCTION

The Houston Area Urban League Guild is an auxiliary of the Houston Area Urban League whose mission includes promoting volunteer participation, raising funds to support the Leagues’ programs, and activities and communicating the Leagues’ programs policies and concerns to the community at large. The Guild members’ work and dedication has earned them first-place recognition in the Southern Region of the National Urban League for donating more than $97,000 to the Houston Area Urban League over the last five years. The Guild also received the 2004 Quentin Mease Community Service Award for its commitment to service and fundraising, a prestigious honor awarded by the Houston Area Urban League.

The nation’s Guilds have a rich tradition. The first Urban League Guild was founded in 1942. Today there are over 55 Guilds nationwide, whose memberships range from 15 to 500 members. Locally our diverse membership is more than 50 members from a variety of professional and corporate backgrounds who diligently support the League’s mission through our fundraising and in-kind hours of volunteerism.

EVENT CONCEPT

The Houston Area Urban League Annual Mask Ball is the primary fundraiser for the Guild. It is an evening of dinner and dancing with musical entertainment typical of a Mardi Gras Ball.  Dinner is a seated three-course meal with cash bar service available throughout the evening.  The Tenth Annual Mask Ball will be held at the Renaissance Hotel on Friday, February1, 2008.  We expect between 425-450 guests from the community to attend the Ball.  Our past major underwriter has been H-E-B.
