How to clean old wood with natural cleaners

Wooden furnishings are fantastic in any home as they look beautifully classic yet still modern, and are also so easy to look after. The first thing to think about is the area of wood you wish to clean. Take this into consideration when mixing cleaning solutions and selecting cleaning tools, for example, will you need a toothbrush for cracks and crevices? Or a soft mop for floors and panels?

One of the most common solutions for natural wood cleaners is a mixture of 1/2 cup white vinegar to 1 gallon of warm water. This is because it’s cheap, easy and yet still so effective. If cleaning a floor or large space, use a mop but ensure that the mop has no excess moisture and then gently mop the floor. There is no need to rinse. Wooden floor does not need to be soaked; this will ruin the finish and can cause damage to the underneath of the flooring. Also, wood will swell if it gets too wet, so this may cause drawers and doors etc. on furnishings to stick. For anything else, use the same solution with a sponge or soft cloth and rub gently in the direction of the grain. Ensure there are no wet patches left behind.
